ProPublica: These Local Jails Were Supposed to Detain Immigrants for Only 72 Hours. One Woman Was Held for a Total of 26 Days.
ProPublica reports that local jails in Florida have repeatedly rebooked immigrants detained on ICE’s behalf, resulting in some individuals being held in county jails beyond the 72-hour limit that generally applies to such detention. An analysis of federal and local detention data found that the practice was particularly prevalent in Pinellas and Orange counties, where some detainees were rebooked multiple times. One woman was rebooked 10 times and held for a total of 26 days.
