Practice Alert: DOS Will Pause Immigrant Visa Processing for 75 Countries
On August 21, a federal judge struck down the State Department’s suspension of immigrant visa processing for nationals of 75 countries. Implementation of that ruling remains unclear. Meanwhile, according to media and member reports immigrant visa interviews have reportedly been cancelled at posts worldwide as consular officers receive training on public charge. It is unclear when interviews will resume. Separately, the Associated Press reported that the DOS is preparing to revoke B-1/B-2 visas issued between 2016 and 2026 to individuals who subsequently sought asylum, in what could be the largest mass visa revocation in U.S. history.
