NPR: Trump Signs New Orders Targeting Birthright Citizenship, Weeks After SCOTUS Ruling
NPR reports that President Trump signed two executive orders today seeking to further restrict birthright citizenship, including by targeting citizenship for children born in the United States to certain foreign nationals and in cases involving alleged “birth tourism.” The actions follow the Supreme Court’s June 2026 decision striking down the Administration’s prior attempt to end birthright citizenship and reaffirming that citizenship at birth is protected under the 14th Amendment. Estimates cited indicate that births involving foreign residents or temporary visitors represent a small fraction of births in the United States each year.
