NOTUS: Deportations Are Spiking. Judges Say Their Hands Are Being Forced
NOTUS reports that current and former immigration judges say pressure from the Justice Department, including the termination of around 125 judges and new policies limiting judicial discretion, has effectively led to more deportations and created a climate of fear within the immigration courts. More than one-quarter of immigration judges have left since the Trump Administration took office, while EOIR has rapidly hired new judges, many with backgrounds in ICE, the military, or prosecutorial offices.
