Mother Jones: ICE Is Being Sued for Refusing to Return Detainees’ Papers and Property
Mother Jones reports that seven formerly detained individuals have sued ICE, alleging that the agency unlawfully withheld personal belongings and documents, including Social Security cards and employment authorization documents, for months after their release, in violation of the Fourth Amendment and ICE’s own confiscation directive. The lawsuit alleges that the withholding has caused job losses and financial hardship and asks the court to order ICE to return the property and stop retaining belongings without justification.
