CBS News: Immigration Judge in Chicago Orders 6 Children Deported After Courts Deemed Them Abandoned
CBS News reports that an immigration judge in Chicago ordered six of 10 children, ages 12 to 17, removed after state courts deemed them abandoned, despite their pending applications for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS). Attorneys argued the children should be eligible to remain in the United States because of their pending SIJS applications, but the judge concluded that the time needed for them to obtain valid visas did not justify allowing them to stay.
