ABC27: ‘Secret’ Immigration Courts Popping Up in Federal Buildings, Observers Say
ABC27 reports that AILA continues to raise concerns about the Administration’s use of “pop-up” immigration courts and changes to detainee locator information. AILA Senior Director of Government Relations Greg Chen said, “Dramatic policy changes are creating chaos [and] threatening due process,” while Rep. Greg Stanton (D-AZ), described his own difficulty accessing a FEMA building in Washington, D.C., where immigration courts are being held. Earlier this week, AILA held a virtual press briefing on these developments and released a policy brief addressing concerns about due process, transparency, and judicial independence raised by hidden immigration court locations.
