Hmong Veterans' Naturalization Act of 2000
The Hmong Veterans' Naturalization Act of 2000, which became law on May 26, 2000, and which was amended on November 1, 2000, provides an exemption from the English language requirement and special consideration for civics testing for certain refugees from Laos applying for naturalization.

On November 28, 2001, the President signed a bill which extends the N-400 filing date by an additional 18 months. Please note the new deadlines stated below.

Applicants who believe they qualify for this exemption must file their applications for naturalization (Form N-400) by the following deadlines:

May 26, 2003 Deadline for Soldiers and Spouses
November 1, 2003 Deadline for Persons Widowed in Southeast Asia.
