Purpose:
The primary function of the Office of Business Liaison (OBL) is to educate the United States public on immigration-related employment, investment, and school issues. The OBL provides information on the employment eligibility verification process, as well as the opportunities available to employers to hire and/or "sponsor" foreign workers in accordance with U.S. Government regulations administered by a variety of federal agencies.

Contacting Us:
If you are trying to reach the Employer Business Investor and School Services Hotline (EBISS) toll-free line, formerly the Office of Business Liaison Employer hotline, they can be reached at 1-800-357-2099 TDD 1-800-767-1833, generally from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM local time, Monday through Friday (Federal holidays excluded). The National Customer Service Center (NCSC) may be contacted at 1-800-375-5283.

Training:
Our staff will accept requests to address meetings of trade associations, corporations, and other business, legal or academic groups on the status of or changes in immigration law and/or regulations. We conduct training for groups with fifty or more attendees. If you wish to request a presentation, (or speaker) please submit your request via fax (202) 272-1865 or by phone 1-800-357-2099. The following information must be provided via fax or verbal request. Date speaker required, topics to be covered and estimated number of attendees.

Information:
Our office will send out limited quantities of the Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification Form, and the Form M-274, Handbook for Employers. In addition, our office will provide copies of any of our series of Employer Information Bulletins, which present information on complex immigration matters and procedures of frequent concern to employers in plain language format.

Information available from the OBL is limited to immigration-related employment, investment and school issues. Please do not contact our office for other immigration information or to check on the status of petitions or applications that may be pending in District Offices or Service Centers. In addition, although callers should be aware that it is prohibited for our office or any other Immigration office to verify an alien's status for employment purposes, we can assist with document awareness.
